Console fit up on passengers side

Making a brkt to hold my console . When I mock it up to sit 'level' in the car(no carpet yet) there is a gap onthe passenger side approx 1/2-3/4"from about shifter forward. Is this normal? My inclination is to shim this up with under pad riot ro installing carpet.
Also is the console actually on a slight angle on the trans hump running front to back in the car? This being towards the passenger side at reat?due to the way the back of the console is contoured? or am I just over critical how this fits..... there was no console so I've no holes to go by...........thx.

they never fit tight , the carpet will take up the space , you can add padding under the carpet as well
