Happy to be able to help the transman instead of the other way around for a change
Did a quick web search. The brand name was Pinnacle, a company that specializes in computer video stuff. They used to make something called a Dazzle (may still be out there, I don't know) that was a lot more expensive than what I got. I couldn't find any sign of what I have, but as I recall there were about half a dozen similar products at the time, all made to transfer analog video to mpegs. If you head to a Circuit City or a CompUSA and tell them what you want to do, I'm sure they can set you up with something.
If all you want to do is capture the video, or if all the edits you want to make are limited to starting and stopping the recorder at the right times, this would be all you would need. If you want to make more elaborate edits, add titles or play with sound (like, say, a voice-over) then you'd need some editing software as well. The only editing software I have experience with is the Avid system (high end, thousands of dollars), but if you can wait until after Carlisle (I'm heading out tonight for Virginia) I'd be happy to do a little more research and see what's out there, if that's the kind of thing you need.
