Like your Mopar? Park your car in a garage? Like your garage? Put a fire extinguisher in both places!
I personally have put three fires so far on Mopars:
#1 My 1970 Challenger. I had rebuilt the Holley, we were setting the floats, the hood was up, little did I know there was a crack in the header tube near the head, started a small fire next to the header, and there was enough fuel vapors floating around the engine compartment to ignite into one large fireball! One blast at the base of the fire from an extinguisher put it out. Saved my E-body, possibly my garage and house!
#2 My old 1968 Charger. I had a dual feed Holley on this one, too, and I didn't think about about it until after it happened, but the cheap made in Taiwan chrome fuel line had the inlet right over the distributor (440), and one leak where the fuel line met the chrome Holley feed line, dripped fuel right onto the distributor, which was almost an instant fire. Luckily, I kept a fire extuisher in the car,so we were able to contain it, but it burned up a few wires that I had to jumper to get home.
#3 A buddy's '71 Dart. We were out doing burn outs, and I noticed orange flames through a hood vent. We stopped, got out, had no extinguisher, but we were lucky; we were able to put it out with our shirts. Few burns on the hands and we went home topless, but at least the car didn't burn. He carries an extinguisher in all his cars now.
So, do what you like, but all my cars have an extinguisher in 'em.
