Autometer Electric Speedometer

I have one installed in my car and the problem is I have a cutoff switch so I loose power to the electronic speedometer when cutoff is switched to off...I dont want to recalibrate all the time so should I run the + wire from the back of the guage or the positive wire from the sender to the non cutoff side of the battery???

Worried about having constant powere to the guage/sender...will it hurt anything???

This sounds like a radio situation. There is one wire that needs constant power to keep memory, while the other wire powers up at start. I have NO clue here, but do not tie them both to "constant voltage". You are begging for a dead battery there.

well now autometer says to go to "12v ignition source" your best bet is to call them for sure and see what needs to go where. Its probably not the first time they've had that. If it was like a stereo, you'd have a battery 12v, swtiched 12v, and a ground. You could run just the battery + to the other side of the switch and be good on the radio memory. With this, it doesnt show a 'switched 12v' wire to tell the gauge to come on or anything.

So can't tell ya for sure, call Autometer..

Does your speedometer come on and off when you turn the key on?

 hook it up like you said with a small 5 amp fuse driving the guage and/or stereo memory wires.  That way if something tries to grap more current through that wire, it'll just blow the fuse.   This might happen if you try to turn on the key after forgetting to turn your switch back on.

There is a postive coming from the back of the guage and a positive from the sender coming out of the tranny.....Im thinking the positive from the guage should have constant power??? the directions have both positives together then in the 12V ignition source....
