How to mount a new Keith Black Street Hemi.
« on: August 06, 2007 - 03:47:49 PM »
I just wanted to post this somewhere on the net.  For the last several weeks I have been working on figuring out how to mount my new aluminum Keith Black Hemi into my '71 Cuda.   Some of this info I found on the net, and some from just talking to some people.  Basically if you want this motor to fit in your car, you have to mount it via a motor plate, or using the standard V8 K-frame.   The Hemi K-frame will not work.   The big issue is that the external oil pump is right in the way of the motor mount.   The solution using the standard K-frame requires a couple extra parts.  The first is a call to Schumacher Creative Services.  Ask them for their Hemi conversion mounts and tell them you have a Keith Black.  They actually make the correct mounting bracket for the drivers side and package it all in a kit.  The KB block has the upper mounting hole lower than on a stock Hemi due to an oil passage as well as a little extra clearance issues due to this passage.  Schumacher will tell you that their mount will only work with a single line external pump.  This is true for the most part, but if you are running the dual line, as I am, you can still make it work by purchasing a flush mount AN 12 plug from Russell Performance.  With this plug, there is plenty of clearance.  The one thing I did with the plug, was to take the o-ring from the original plug and use it instead of the little one that the Russell plug comes with.

Now, I can do the fun stuff!
