just a little story for yall with a lesson
« on: July 28, 2007 - 08:37:39 PM »
i have a 1998 jeep wrangler 4.0l and the other day i was crusing around and it died 1/4 mile from my house i called a bud and we towed it home.first thought was crank shaft postion sensor as the one in my wifes 1999 cherokee just took an exit stage right.but nope i had spark  hmm  .....so i went to the fuel system pressed the bleeder valve on the fuel rail and it seemed to have gas in it hmm...rode over to napa and dropped 60 bucks on a fuel pressure gauge hooked it up to the ole ladys jeep first and got a steady 45lbs hooked it up on the wrangler 0lbs  ahah must be the fuel pump..3 hours later a couple sawzall blades some bloody knuckles a small amount of cursing i had the fuel tank dropped.woot.wasnt as bad as i thought.so i open the tank fixing to replace the fuel pump and wtf the tank is bone dry.........moral of the story never trust a mopar sending unit  it said i had a half tank..... good news was i did the yj tank mod while i was in there and made a 20 gallon tank outta my 15  kinda nice  bad news was my wife asked me if i was sure it just wasnt outta gas b4 i started the project.   guess your never to old to learn something.. :banghead: :banghead:

Yikes, the only lesson I would take from this story is to not admit to your wife that it was actually out of gas. Then you can embezzle money from her for the imaginary fuel pump and stash it for you car  At least that is what I would do after 16 years of married bliss  :cooldancing:

It's funny to see this post b/c a woman at my work just took a poll on Friday as to how many men ride around on "E" before getting gas.......of course I lied and said "mine's full right now" hehehe..... :smilielol:

That's funny! I can relate with the wife thing. I remember constantly nagging my wife about passing a gas station and bringing her car home on empty and driving up to the garage door too fast and too close......Guess who's ran out of gas and who ran into the garage door caving it in 3 feet. Wasn't my wife! :banghead: :smilielol:

 :swear: :swear: :swear:Crap!!
I hate when that happens!! Glad you were able to get it fixed. I once  had a defective Holley carb. brand new out of the box with a leaky float. Took me a while to figure it out. Before I did, I slammed the door on my Cuda and it shattered!! Replacement carb....free. New window...$150.00 plus labor!!  :stomp: Go figure!! :clueless:
