I am in need of a roof for a 73 challenger.

 I knew it had some rust under the vinyl, but when i Pulled the vinyl top off 73 challenger, i was a sick for awhile. I think i can patch if i can't find a top. Anybody have anything i can use?

I found a rooftop at a salvage yard, but they are wanting almost a$1000 for it. I know i can patch it up for a lot less than that, but it will take a lot of time and effort. Anyone think a 1000 is reasonable versus the time it takes to weld up and patch an existing roof.
