Barn Find
« on: August 06, 2007 - 09:13:26 PM »
Let me start by saying that I drive for DHL . I deliver to a rual area in upstate NY . Not too many E bodies left in this area due to rust . I made a delivery today to a house and trying to avoid backing into traffic I drove behind the house to turn around .And in a old falling down garage I saw a 72 Barracuda . It looked pretty good from what I could tell without going into the garage . There wasn't anyone home but I'll be back in the next few days and so on till I see someone . I always look in garages and barns as I drive around dreaming .In all honesty I'm thinking 318 or maybe a 6 cyl ( no rally hood ) but who knows even a 6 at a good price would be a good find . I will keep my fingers crossed but in all reallity I can't be the first to come along . I live on a dead end road in the middle of no place and every now and then some one comes around looking to buy . Funny how word spreads . :clueless:

Cool find !!

Lets hope the folks there are nice.
The chances of the car being a /6 are very slim. 16,142 total E-body Plymouths built in 1972 but only 809 slants. If the car is a '73 or '4 no leaning tower's of power were produced with the 318 being the smallest engine available.
Of course it could be a 340 for '72 and '73 or even a 360 if it's a '74 but the chances of that are slim since it has a flat hood.

Maybe it is a '71 hemicuda that someone changed the grille and hood on  :naughty:

nah

Great find!

You never know what you will find behind some peoples houses.

P.S. Maybe this is the mysterious 1972 Hemi Cuda people have talked about.   http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=7720.0 Caution: read this thread at your own risk.

Went by there today still no one home . It's about 70 miles from my house . There is about 1/2 inch of dirt and crud on the car and yet it still looks good . Might have to be a week end trip . :droolingbounce:

Well it was a real nice dream while it lasted .I met the owner today , a really nice man . I would have felt bad stealing his car if he didn't know what it was worth (I would have got over feeling bad however  :cooldancing:) Turns out it was a 1973 barracuda . Came with a 318 . Now has a 340 in it . He knew what it was worth and it wasn't for sale at any price . Said he would get to it after he was done fixing up the house . He has owned it for about 15 years , had it painted and the motor rebuild shortly after . About 500 miles later he parked it and end of story . Said he started it last year and the gas line leaked so he shut it off and that was that .

I can appreciate his story . I always had people on me to sell my car because I wasn't doing nothing with it . Sorry to say first things first . These cars are great ,I love them but they are our toys .

Bottom line this whole thing was fun even if I didn't get the car in the end and I made a new mopar friend . :jumping:

P.S my wife WOULD have killed me when I told her I was taking money out of savings for a 3rd car "I don't need" (her words not mine) :bricks1:

Sorry you did't get the car.  I know how he feels.  I had to keep my garage doors closed because I was getting so many visitors.  I've got three project cars at the minute.  But if another deal came up I would jump on it and ask my wife for forgiveness later.  Like the last two.
