Try this old trick my dad taught me.

Take some 1/2 or 3/4 inch tape, just smaller than your pulley width, heavy duty painters tape works great, as it doesn’t stretch. Run the tape from pulley to pulley, just as the belt would run.  Pull off the tape and stretch out on the floor, now you can measure the length of belt you will need.  :2thumbs:

Thanks vertman, thats good advice.  Now if I could only find a belt listed by length.  Does it say the length in most part descriptions?   ???

Most “old school” auto parts stores, and some new ones, have a device that measures belt length.  Just tell them your length and they can measure belts tell they get the right length.

I had to do the same thing for my march serpentine pulleys and did just like 67vert said. I then took the measurements to my local autozone where they found the correct belts in no time at all. I think the last couple digits were the belt length, like 9142.5 would be a 42.5 inch belt. Good luck

All quality belts be they serpentine or old V groove type have their size printed on them.  Better spare parts houses have a book which list the belts in all the different lengths as well as for specific model vehicles.  :2thumbs:

K, got the alternator on and mounted.  I need a 7 groove 81 inch belt.  No one around here seems to have one.   :stomp:

Any ideas?  He said all he had was like a 76 and an 85 or something.  It was way off.   :pullinghair:

from the goodyear website:  http://www.goodyearep.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?id=3128

both are 7 groove

part number      metric part number     effective length    outside length
4070810           7PK2057 7                  80.98                 81.75
4070825           7PK2095 7                  82.5                   83.25

use these part numbers and call around....
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

All serpentine belt numbers have little to do with english  measurements. They are all metric. But, usually Gates, and CQ, I think Dayco too have the english measurements printed on the sleeves. I ended up getting 3 belts 1.25" or so apart in length, and using the one that puts the belt tensioner in a good spot for the March system I just finished.

Thanks guys.  That Goodyear site really helps.  At least when I call a place now, I can give them a part number to cross refrence.  Getting very close now.
