Argent paint?
« on: August 08, 2007 - 08:33:31 PM »
I know this has been asked before, but what color argent is the 71 grill? Not the top and bottom of the grill, but the inner area in the pic. Is this the light argent? Do they make this color smooth or textured or both?

I had 3 71 grilles and still have 2, all of them seem to be a non textured silver paint. I have no clue what the paint code would be but it is definitely not argent, at least on all the 71 grilles I have seen.

Thanks, I also have 3 71 grills. All of them have this silver color on them, even the black one. Looks like Totaly Auto is calling it "Grille Silver", Quess I will be calling them to order it tomorrow... Think one can for three grills should be enough?

I would think that would be plenty, not much to paint when you get it masked off. Post some pics when you get a grille done please

I just painted these bezels for 71 with "dark argent" from Totally Auto. I also just ordered some grille silver for the center of the 71 grille. Nice stuff, looks just a little lighter than the original color. But I think the old stuff is just faded some.

Yes, but it was for a Challenger. It matched my NOS headlight bezels real nice. I can't speak for Cuda's.

If you're operating on a budget, you might consider the Duplicolor graphite-color wheel paint available at Kragen's, Checkers, etc. It does a really nice job, looks like dark argent to me, and is only five or six bucks.

By the way, does everyone understand that "argent" is just French for "silver" so when someone says that their silver paint is argent, they're going to be right everytime.

Also, before someone calls BS on having a silver grill on an R/T, (1) that's the way we got the car so we kept the textured grill; and (2) it really is an R/T.

Don't know any French.  :-[  Thanks, I would have never had a clue.  :clueless:

The grille looks great!  I have heard of 70 and 71 R/T's with the argent grille before so no problems from me.

Thanks to FY1Cuda for that tip - Your grille looks great!  So I assume that your grille is 'smooth', and does not have texture to the paint?

I'm sure this has been discussed a bunch of times before, but I would welcome any tips for replicating the orginal argent grille color and texture.

Sorry, purple1, I don't mean to hijack your thread.  Although my car is a 70, I hope we can all gain some information and tips here.  Is that paint from Totally Auto in a spray can?

Yes. Totally Auto paint is in a spray can. Some may not like the cans, but I am fine with them. The "dark argent" I got from them seems to have the correct texture to it as well. I am very happy with it.

I just finished restoring two, 71 grills and they came out beautiful. Got the paint from totally auto. The outside of the grill is dark argent. Inside the six holes they are grill silver and the grills themselves are ...brb let me go look ...okay-satin black. This one pictured didn't have the dark argent on the outside of the light rings.
