Torque settings - Ft lb Vs In lb?
« on: August 20, 2007 - 07:03:25 AM »
Can anyone give me the conversion between foot/pounds and inch/pounds for torque settings?  Majority of settings on the guides are in foot/pounds but 1 or 2 are in inch/pounds.  I divided In lb by 12 to get Ft lb but not sure this is correct (200 In lb / 12 = 16 Ft lb????)

Yes, that is right, 12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound.

Inch pounds? Isn't that when you torque something with your left hand?
Seriously the only time I worry about inch pounds is when setting the bands in the tranny. Other than that i pretty much hand tighten plus a little bit for valve covers, oil pans, and anything else calling for inch pounds. I do have one of those cute baby inch pound torque wrenches if i feel I must torque it to spec. If you really need to be acurate I would get an inch pound wrench. Regular foot pound wrenches are not going to be accurate under 20 foot pounds so trying to convert won't do you any good because the wrench is not designed for that low of a load.
