Keisler Template
« on: August 10, 2007 - 01:05:52 AM »
Hey guys, as some of you know I'm getting ready to send my car to the shop for paint. I have a bit of metalwork to do before it goes and one of the things on my list was to install the Keisler extra tunnel hump on the right side of the tunnel.  Apparently when you get the Keisler kit you get a blueprint/template and a "hump" to go on the right side of the tranny tunnel because in about 50% of the cars the 5 speed hits the floor in this location.  I called Keisler today to get a quote and to order the template and "hump", however they will not sell them seperatley from the kit.  Because I haven't decided on motor combo, rear gear ratio and because I am trying to save enough to pay for paint I am not ready to order the Keisler kit yet so i was wondering if anyone who has installed a Keisler conversion has the template and would be willing to send it or a copy to me.  I figured I could make the hump piece myself,  or if someone on here didn't use theirs I would be willing to buy it.  This way I can install it now before the cars goes to paint and will eliminate the possibility of having to cut up a freshly painted floor later on.  Thanks a lot, Tyler

I bought my floor hump from Keisler and didn't receive any template. The hump is fitted to the floor pan, draw a chalk line around the edge, remove the hump and cut about one inch inside the line.   :2thumbs:  Be carefull of rear crossmember brace.  :woo:
There are a few  good links on this site for doing the conversion.  :clapping:
Buying the hump is really the best option and then everything else will fit up to the hump. Carpet, brackets for the consul if you are fitting one etc., looks factory as well.

No, i guess I wasn't clear, I have the 4 speed hump in my car, I already installed it, Keisler says there is an additional piece or hump that goes on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel for clearance.  They said it is needed in about 50% of the e-bodies they sell 5 speeds to.  Thanks, Tyler

I know exactly the piece you are talking about now.  I haven't determined that I need mine yet.  I am probably a couple weeks away from knowing.  When I get home, I will take some pictures of it and the template.   It isn't a complicated piece.  You should be able to fab one up easily.

Thanks a lot hemidog, any chance of you copying that template and sending it to me, I could paypal you the $$$.  If you don't use the piece I would be interested in buying that too.  Thanks, Tyler

You will laugh at this probably.

Here are pictures of the "hump" for the passenger side.  It measures 16" long and 14" on one side and 13" the other.   On the 13" side there is a 4" slit 5" from one side. Something you can do yourself with some scrap.   I found my template also.  Check your pm's.

The instructions want you to cut the hole from the template, install the transmission, then add the patch.   So you really have to mock it up to do it right. :stomp:

well that sucks, thanks for taking the pictures though.  Do you think you'll have to put that piece in you car or do you have room?

I am really not sure.  My car is totally painted and when I ordered the transmission, this happened to be a new piece they were adding.  I don't think I will really know until I put it all in.  At that point, if I have clearance issues, I hope I can just pound out the hump a little bit without damaging the paint.

Sweet!

Also, to let you know, I was able to get my motor and transmission into the car last weekend.  I didn't need to cut the floor for the additional clearance, but it is darn tight.
