833 OD Tranny Any Pitfalls ???
« on: May 06, 2003 - 10:59:08 AM »
OK,

I took the Psycho's advice and got me an Overdrive 833.  The guy I got it from told me one of the ears on the side cover had to be upside down.  Question is, are there any modifications I need to make to the shifter/linkage ?  Any other "quirks" ?  Other than that, I'm looking for a better set of gears  ;D  Wonder what the top end will be if I leave the 3.23 gears in it?  Hehe...

2 of the three shift rods will adjust , by using the different levers from both trannys you can make the third rod work  you may need to put a slight bend in the rod though.
you will need to machine down the front brg retainer or swap the one from the tranny you now have as the diameter is slightly larger , 480 to 5.20
 I calculated a theoretical top speed of 225 mph with the OD , 29" tires  & 6500 rpm & 3.54 gears  ;D

I made the swap last year and have never regreted it. Chryco helped with the linkage. The only thing different is the down shift point is a little lower rpm. Or it will grind :o I have 3:91 gears and was at 130 and still had lots left, i was getting a bit nervous ::) Its all good.

I got the same sickening feeling watching those rice rockets in 2Fast2Furious. Just push a button and bang... I don't think so.

So BP23N how much diffrence can you feel after the swap?  Was it worth the Money? Wich trans did you go with? 3550, tko, tkoII ?? Your horsepower?   I would like the 3550 becouse the exstra gear may help me get my larger B body down the road faster. What do you think??
