Engine noise
« on: August 27, 2007 - 11:13:31 PM »
well after the motor gets warmed up it starts to make a high speed ticking sound??? I took the valve covers off and some of the rockers are to tight side by side and Im thinking after the get hot and the aluminum expands it makes them real tight and makes them like stick together kind of and flutters??? make sense or any ideas??? im gonna check in the morning if they loosened up at all from cool down...

you need to adjust the rockers while the engine is hot , as the metal heats up it will change lash specs

when I had the 906's I had it right after some adjusting but not use to running aluminum heads and I didnt compensate for the aluminum head either??? The reason I believe what it is when I broke the motor in for the 1st time the #4 cam bearing spun and I got no oil to the rockers and eventually the rockers got hot and stuck to the shaft and made the same type of flutter noise...I'll re adjust...

thx chyrco

Yes they are thick wall shafts.....???

Shown above on the right are the super heavy duty .165" wall thickness rocker shafts that are INCLUDED with (and developed specifically for) these rocker arms. Thinwall, light duty rocker shafts supplied with "the competitions" roller rocker sets are shown on the left for comparison. In addition to the much heavier wall thickness, our HD shafts are made from solid 4340 steel. This helps the shafts to maintain perfect roundness under extreme loads, and allows the holddowns to be tightened to the proper torque without distorting or "ovaling," which is a common problem with the thinner shafts.

In fact that was where i had a short to ground problem was at the header. And it was on one of the plug wires down by the boot. I noticed it the best at night and dark out. But if you wanna go and start replacing some expensive valve train parts before trying to keep it simple go ahead be my guest.

I had a spark plug wire give me fits once upon a time. The headers were not ceramic coated, so they were a blast furnace on the hiway. Anyway, I was hearing a ticking sound from the engine. I leaned over the fender to get a better listen, as I did that, I looked down and saw the arching from one of my spark plug wires to one of the header tubes.  :stomp:  Upon further inspection, another wire was starting to show stress too from the heat.
