Disk brake size question
« on: August 30, 2007 - 09:59:35 PM »
What is the front disk brake rotor size on an original 318 1972 Challenger?
I went to the auto parts store asking about new rotors, wheel bearings and seals, and they said they had two sizes rotors for my car, 10" and 11"
Was 11" an option on a 72 Challenger?
I could just go out and pull a tire off and measure it, but I've been working in this heat all day, and I'm toast! LOL

 Next question,
Where is the cheapest place to buy new rotors for a 72 Challenger, the prices I've seen have been ALOT higher than other cars.
 Thanks for any help.

Autozone.  I think like 60 bucks.  10.78 rotor I believe.

Yea, they had Duralast for $72.00 each which is alot better than the $135.00 I was being quoted at another auto parts store.
So the front disk brake rotor size on a 72 Challenger is considered 10" and not 11" when ordering them?

I'm pretty sure it's just under 11" but people say 11",  10.95" I believe.

It seems many parts stores just generalize the sizes, or they are just flat out wrong. The two common sizes are 10.87 and 11.75, although some books may call them 11 and 12 just for simplicity.

 :iagree:

I had the 10.87" rotors on mine (The brakes came off of a 74 Challenger, supposedly).  Nobody recognized that rotor size - Everyone had 10", 11", or 11.75" rotors.

I ended up getting the 11" units from Rock Auto (...that's another story entirely).  They are larger than my 10.87" originals, but they fit OK with the caliper brackets and wheels.
