rear end gearing id

the stock 74 rear end on my 318 Barracuda had .282 in yellow paint on one axle tube and 817R (or it maybe 817H) in the same yellow stamped paint on the removable chunk.  Does this give any indication what the rear end gearing would be and if any kind of limited slip or not, just curious.

the yellow marks probably mean something to someone but I do not know what it means
 is there a tag on one of the bolts with the ratio on it ?

You may try PM'ing member ECS. I think thats the name.   The post was the most accurate restored e body. He may have an answer for you.

A side note... My original 70 barracuda 323 sure grip had yellow stripes on the axles, so did a 70 bb 8 3/4 I picked up in N. C.

Hi Wade.  Summer has came and went and all I have accomplished is exterior house remodeling and NOTHING auto related this summer at all.  Didn't even get my building started yet.  Make you a deal Wade, invite me to the next Mopar club meeting you're going to and I'll not only join the club but bring photo album of this car.
Hemiken, I am a dinosaur and don't know how to post pix though I did buy a dig camera.  These aren't yellow stripes, but are yellow paint stamped numbers.  the one on the axle tube might even be 1282 rather than .282, hard to tell, and the one on the chunk is larger (same yellow) stamp that shows the 817R (or it's 817H, or could even be B17R or H).

Forgot one answer, of course, a metal tag on one of the diff chunk bolts would be too easy!  Only reason I see these numbers is the guy who had the Barracuda before me completely detailed every peice as it came off, and he gave me those photo's.  He stripped the whole rear end and now those numbers have all been painted.  He even took the leaf packs apart and put new material between the leaves and new clamps and stuff.  the whole car body was put on a dolly and complete underside, etc was media blasted and repainted.  That's why I bought the car in mid-project, the guy was doing a phenominal job until he burnt out (as so frequently happens) and bailed and 1/4 of what he had in it.
