First track night on the new engine
« on: September 15, 2007 - 07:35:47 AM »
I have the new engine fully broken in and since I`l be racing Sunday - Mopar day at the track I needed to get a few runs in last night.First run was a 13.94 @ 99.88 which wasn`t bad for a baseline although track was greasy and I spun all the way thru first(I NEED to buy some drag radials!).Second pass spun again, 13.93 @ 99.17 so at least it`s consistant.I could feel a couple lean spots thru the rpm range so we upped the rears fomr 82`s to 85`s for the third run, felt better but only picked up a little, 13.88 @ 99.72.60` times were 2.1`s b/c of no traction due to healthy engine and more bottom end than the old hurt engine so I can easlily pick up 2-3 tenths there and I was shifting at 6000 when I used to spin the old combo to 6800 so theres plenty more left up top.Staging lanes filled up after that so we packed it in.All considered I`m fairly happy to ay least be back in the 13`s and should be able to get back in the low 13`s with some tuning and some traction.   :2thumbs: Second run was also a good race against a black 300M-I got him off the line by a couple tenths and had him thru first gear(even tho spinning the rears) but he pulled me from half track on and ran a 13.3.My buddy saw him later-it was a 6.1 Hemi with a cold air kit and a few other mods.

Sweet, I'm glad it went well.

That 300 was a 6.1, was it black?, if it was a Greek Guy, He is a nice guy.  I actually bought my Chally from his cousin.  His other cousin owns Seacoast Dodge.

High 13s is not bad for a 340 street engine.  What is your combination again?

Not bad. A little tuning and try driving a little different on each run (rpm's) and you'll probably go a bit faster. Just get some more track time in.
My load went the best of 13.28 @ 98.46 with a 3.91 gear and a short tire 83" 295/50/15. I changed things around to get the rpm's down for more drivabilite on the street, couldn't take the 50 mph @ 3400 rpm. The engine wouldn't last one week at that rate.
Have fun at the track....

Wow, I bet he has some mods to put that 300M into the 13's. You sure you did not mean 300C?

It was a new 300 with the 6.1 Hemi so it really shouldn`t take much to get 13.3`s out of it.
My old enigne combo went 13.3`s-13.5`s with everything else the same so I should easliy get get back down there at least.Traction is my biggest problem as I lowered my launch rpm to 2000 and still spun hard thru first.New engine is 9.5-1 340,Comp cam, ported 915`s, 2.02 intake valves,LD340 intake,4 spd with 3.91`s.I also dropped some wieght by removing the 4 spd console and swithcing to a fiberglass hood and front bumper but the track scales weren`t open.
