    1993 challenger 440

    Have an oppurtunity to buy a 1993 challenger 440, very clean with built motor, not a 6 pack, purple, dont know much else, wants 20,000, what should I look for ???????

    You must mean a 1973 challenger.  Do you have pics or the fender tag or build sheet info?  Sounds a little high, but it could also be a pretty good find depending on it's condition, options and whether it's #'s matching.   However, I don't believe they put 440's in 73's...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    Nope,  no 440's in 73 so that shoots #'s matching.
    Personally for 20K I'd look for a star in the East. ;)  
    For 20K it would have to be more than something special.  Not #'s matching puts a really clean 73 Cuda in the 10 - 12K range for me tops.

    Twenty Gs is still alot of bread for a '73
    The early Challengers with a stock 440 might go for that
    but it will be a long time before the later ones will

    20K for a 73 chally not #matching is a little steep unless its got somthing special, like a lot of rare items other than the motor, like rev said check out the fender tag and the build sheet if you can get ahold of it   :D

    Welcome mikeallen, I would have to agree 20K for a 73 is a tad pricey. Sounds like maybe the guy bought the car and thought he could sell it again for a quick$, If he is a Mopar guy he probably knows that's a high price? Now if he restored it depending on how much he did himself he could easily have that amount invested, but to get that amount..... ??

    Hmmm... that means that puts my dad's '73 340 4 speed numbers matching Chally at like what.... $50K?!? ::) ;)

    That is very steep for a non-numbers '73 Challenger...no matter what engine... ::)

    You Guys! He's got a very rare find here --  that one of one 1993 Challenger 440. Don't listen to them, they just want you to pass so they can buy it out from under you! It's worth at least $20k!!!

    As one of our friends has pointed out, it would be very easy to spend $20k on an E body, but unless it is really super special, then it would be hard to get that.  May be some one is particularly looking for a 440 car, & its is very, very good, it could be worth that to them.  I know we put a fair amount of work, & a few dollars in Steve's '73 44o Cuda, (also not orig or #s matching)  But I'm pretty sure that $20K would not begin to move it, so this is something an individual must decide.  Is it rust free?  Has all body repair, if any, been done in a manner as to be unnoticed, & done to last?  Can the owner prove to you what has been spent on the car, & if possible, see who has worked on it?   If all these things can be satisfied, & you really want a 440 car, then maybe you should buy it.  Bear in mind that you may, or may not be able to sell it for that when you want to get rid of it,  but then, if you buy a new car, the same is true.  Good luck,  Ovmf

    PS;  We did not spend that much on the Cuda.  Also, just because some one is asking $20k, that doesn't mean a lesser offer wont be considered.    Ovmf
