Rallye gauge swap
« on: September 12, 2007 - 02:05:50 AM »
What kind of work is it to sway a rallye gauge cluster into a 71 challenger with standard gauges??? The car is original and I don't want to go too far down the custom road, but I would really like to put the gauges in.

Thanks

no big deal , it physically bolts in , the wiring needs to be altered slightly, Tach wire added, & power to the clock , all the colors will line up  & you need to swap the oil pressure switch ofr a guage sender

What you need to do to make your standard harness work.

1) Change oil pressure sending unit to gauge unit
2) Cut the wires off the oil warning light
3) Connect the grey oil light signal wire to the oil gauge
4) Connect the dark blue oil light wire to the tach power. (This wire is 12V ignition switched)
5) Run a wire from the negative coil post to the tach terminal
6) Splice 12V continuous power from  the cigarette lighter to the clock

You also need the Rally heater control panel. I'm not sure if the radio panel needs swapped on not.  :clueless:

I made up a wiring kit for converting the non-rallye wiring harness to the rallye wiring harness for $50. You can get more info on the kit here:

http://rt-eng.com/mediawiki/index.php/RTE_E_body_conversion_harness

Also on this page I have a cad drawing showing how to do the conversion. The kit includes all the wires and connectors
you need to do the conversion, including the wire needed on the engine harness.  You can also use the drawing to do your own
conversion without buying the kit if you are so inclined.

Just ordered the whole rallye setup from RTE, hope to get it any day now.
Anyway, I plan to do the whole swap in the next week or so... I'll post here how it goes.

PS, if you happen to be so lucky like me to have an A/C car  :banghead: , the rallye a/c panel is not a cheap item as RTE pointed out to me.   :money:
Bit the bullet and did it anyway, I want the car right.

Do you need the heater control panel to achieve the correct look or is there a problem with everything fitting correctly??

Yeah, if you have an a/c car you'll need the heater control and panel.  They are different.
