Since it has the orig eng I'm more inclined to put it back original . I have a bad left leg & foot which makes shifting gears difficult

With such a rare/desirable car I wouldn't even consider modifying it. If you really want to build a pro car I'd sell it and look for a better canidate to build like a /6 or 318 Barracuda vert. Or buy one already modified. Modifying the one you have would certainly hurt it's value and would be a waste of a rare car IMO.

I understand your physical limitations may force a change, and changing it to an automatic but saving all the original gear would be a decent second choice, just do as little damage as possible while converting it and save EVERYTHING. Also keep in mind that a manual trans car is a much more desirable combo come selling time.

Welcome to the site!!!  That convertible is definitely a rare car and should look awesome all done back to factory specs.  As Scott has mentioned, if you do end up converting it to an automatic, make sure to save everything and do as clean of a splice as possible when doing the transmission tunnel. (Maybe drill out a complete auto one and do the same with your original manual one so it'd fit flawlessly when/if the manual ever gets put back in.)

I bet if you looked a bit you could trade straight across for an automatic car that is a driver. Might be an option to look at if manual shifting is hard for you. Good luck with it.

It's going back to stock appearance. Lots of other issues to address before the trans, so I'll worry about that when the time comes. Thanks for all the sound advice :2thumbs:

Keep the hump intact and put in an auto w/a column shifter in there.  Shouldn't hurt value at all as that stuff can easily be put back to stick shift.

I say, keep it.  Keep the numbers-matching block safe somewhere and drop in a 6.1L Hemi!

Welcome to the site and what a cool 340 3-speed vert. I would go the column shift route if you want a automatic as this would be the easiest way. Save everything so it can be put back stock if needed.
