Locomotive engineer for Pacific National on the east coast of Australia, the pay is very good and you get to play with at times up to 20,000 thousand horse power, have been doing it now for 37 years and still love it,started as a cleaner on steam engines and got my steam ticket that still comes in handy at engineering field days,to play with very hot stuff you have to be accredited.

Huh????

Sorry, I think no one can understand what I mean ...

What I mean is :
No employer here will interest in what you can do, he will only see a certificate.
When you can't document your knowledge with a certificate - you will not get the job.
Nor when you are the better worker for this job !
I think that no certificate can say something about your experience ...
Cheers

1st ....... High school years.  Worked at Micky D's followed by Augusta Mall with one week each year working at Masters Tourn.

2nd ...... Worked as a bartender after being asked to leave college for parting to much.

3rd ...... Worked for Hercules/Himont as a lab tech after getting married and starting a family.

4th ...... Worked for Dupont/Dupont Pharma for 17yrs while raising a family and returning to school and earning a degree in Business Admin.  Worked 13yrs as chemical lab tech and 4yrs as an accountant.  Was resized when Bristol-Myers Squibb purchased Dupont Pharma.

5th ...... Worked for Lowes as a Zone Manager after earning a MBA.  Didn't last long.

Now ..... Work as an accounting consultant.  Go into companies and clean up their messes.  Also this gives me roughly three months off each year.  It's great to have a best friend/wife who has a great job at Astra Zeneca.

Future ... Since my assignment ended Friday it gives me time to help move my daughter to San Deigo this coming weekend.  She just accepted a job with San Deigo State.  She graduated in May with a Masters in Social Work.
Try to close Dad's ATM service.  :jumping: I have a feeling that this won't happen until my son graduates for Temple U.  He also got accepted to do his final semester in Japan.  :money: :money: :1zhelp: Become a certified Home Inspector and start my own business.  Spend time with my girlfriend/wife if she can slow down.  Work on my chally.  :working:  If all goes well then I'll be able to do this  :faint: :faint: :faint:

It sounds like you're saying "It's tough to get a job if you don't have a diploma."  In many cases that's true, but a lot of it depends on the field.  Some fields tend more toward having a prospective employee show what he knows.  Others use the diploma as a gatekeeper (if you don't have it, you can't get through the gate). I've had both.  Near Washington DC I was told that I needed a BA in Business Administration to be Assistant Manager at a McDonalds.  In Detroit I was offered ASE certification in some areas for writing training programs.

It sounds like Alex is saying, to me anyways, is that the employers only see a diploma/certificate  (there is a difference) and not the experience behind it also.

It sounds like he has the experience and not a certificate  (am I right Alex?) but he cant show them what he can do if he doesnt work for them.  Kinda how I took it anyways.   :dunno:

Kinda just said what ChallengerHK said.

Hi,

no I had already a job when I write this post.
My intention was another ... I'am interested in finding out how is the job market in other country than germany.
Because I plan to find a job in another country - I lost the fun in living here, so I want change this in the future.
I know that I must learn english at first (my english is so terrible :( ).
Therefore I have searched a english teacher and found someone who fit. So I hope that my english becomes better in the next month's :D !

But this is not the reason while I was not here so long.
There are some reasons, here the importend ones :
- Now I have shift work, so my free time is rar
- I have cleared my garage and sold out my cars and parts
- My wife was for 3 times in the hospital
Now this is all over and I hope that my life is once again some stressless ;)

Cheers
