How do you care for a new black paint job?
My Cuda is burnt orange but I have a black BMW M5. The best way to keep it looking great is not drive it
- which or course is not why we have these cars! Next best thing: hand glaze. Black shows all of the swirl marks that are generated by washing or dusting and hand glazing is the only way to remove it. I use 3M Imperial Hand Glaze twice a year but there are many products that do as good a job so that's not a plug for 3M.
Once a year I clay bar it as well which removes the surface grime that bonds to the paint and increases the frequency of swirling.
If you pick up rock chips you can touch up the paint, bring the surface of the touch-up higher than the surrounding paint. Then block it with 800, 1500, 2000, polishing compound with a buffer and hand glazing. You'll never know. Also works for cloudy headlight covers if your daily driver has 'em.
