Internal vs. External Voltage Regulator
« on: October 07, 2007 - 05:55:52 PM »
Quick question:  When I replaced the alternator, I installed one with an internal voltage regulator, even though the car had one with an external one.  Any potential problems I should be aware of re this change?

What sort of problem might I encounter? (or should I go back to the other type of alternator).

hopefully you dont have an ammeter anymore

Working on that.

Nothin really as long as its all properly working. Anytime a new alternator or voltage regulator is put in you should watch the voltage cruising and such a little closer. I've had bad new external regulators from the parts store, assume the same could happen with a internal regulated alt. High voltage/current will do some harm, smoke some wires and blow some bulbs...
