working on electrical on 74 cuda. found a small rectangle box,looks like a relay. 1/2 inch x 1 inch x2 inch,is chrome and has a hloe in the tab for mounting. it also has a small bar on the side that looks like a heat sink. one wire comes from alt ground,another goes into elect couple block. looks like 2 wires broken off.it is for what?

Not sure, but sounds like you could be describing the Emergency Start Switch that are found on '74 Challengers & Cudas; mount on the drivers fender, just below the fender tag? I have one in my Challenger and have photos .....
