Water Valve for 70 Cuda

I am starting to restore the A/C system in my 70 Cuda.  I was looking at replacing the water valve but have been unable to find anything the same as mine.  Lots of valves for 70's, but they are different.

Can someone educate me on this.  Is the first one in the picture (from my car) correct.

Yep, the second is for an AC car and looks similar (if not the same) to that used on all AC Ebodys.  I am unsure if its exactly the same as this but heater only cars used something that looks closer to the one below.

BTW, this is taken from a running Ebay auction that is described as correct for Ebody heater cars. I think I have a new one of these leftover from my resto.

The second pic is the correct "looking" one for the A/C cars, but I have seen variances in those too; not in the valve bodies but in the metal workings on top 

I have seen "new" once on eBay go from $60 to over $100, you just have to keep your eyes open.

This picture that Mike posted for the one running on ebay is just like the one on my ole 74 challenger with air. I bought one and it worked. A guy sells them on the bay for 30 bucks

Yup - forgot to mention that; unless you are building a correct car, these units can be used on an AC car and may even have some availability at your local auto parts house

The second is the right one. You can find them on ebay and some of them even have the brackets with them. However buyer beware 95% of the time the brackets will be for the wrong car.

Also some of the water valves you see on ebay that have a different top are for C-Bodies(??) they use a different system to open and close the valve.

Cars that did not have A/C did not have the water valve.

The first pic you posted is common of the replacement part that is sold in yearone and other sources. It will work but is not correct and I believe they also mount different.

I have a '71 Challenger with A/C with the first pictured heater valve. my father has a '74 Barracuda with A/C with the last pictured valve. So, maybe it depends on the year ........

Is his all original or perhaps has been changed out somwhere down the line?     I thought all AC cars had the more elaborate (and expensive) water valve

I had the first one on my car but bought the second one because it was the only one available for my car.  I paid through the nose but what choice do you have?

Thanks everyone, I guess I am back where I started.  lol.

I think I will convert to the newer (more expensive) type.  Hopefully one pops up on EBay.
