More Master Cylinder and Booster Questions
« on: October 14, 2007 - 04:12:59 PM »
I have more question about master cylinders and power booster on a 70 Challenger with power disc brakes. I am sorry if I have asked any of these questions already but as I removed stuff from my car I wanted to know and now that I am ready to rebuild these pieces I have either misplaced or forgotten the information. Chalk it up to old age or living during the 70's.

I know the original master had a casting number of 2229171 but what are these others that I have and what is the correct power booster for my car. Can this rusty power booster be rebuilt? I can hear allot of stuff inside. The outside spot is rusted through some layers. Does anybody repop the bracket I have in the picture?

Numbers look like this

Power boosters
18268          8550

Master with the 1 bolt in the top of the lid
3699263

Master on Power Booster

138 2n E1S 120

The booster is correct but junk, boosters can be rebuilt but with that rust through you are out of luck. :walkaway:
Both master cylinders you show are aftermarket.  The first one was made by Wagner I think, the one on the booster is EIS.  Bendix made all Mopar master cylinders back in the day.  They made that booster too.
I thought someone was reproducing that wire bracket that attaches to the booster.  I am not sure who but I my recollection is that I have seen it listed in someone's advertisements.

So the bad news is one of the booster is junk but the good news is I have 2 and one is in good shape. Is there anything on the booster I should salvage besides the bracket  or is it all throw away? Who rebuilds boosters?
