front disc brake conversion: '65 cuda
« on: January 07, 2004 - 09:06:21 PM »
I am able to purchase a complete pair of spindles for a disc conversion for $200-$250.  They are the original bolt pattern, so it with match my rear.  I would need to replace the rotors and pads.  Is it worth the money?  For an extra $100 I can also get the longer ball joints required for the swap.

is there rear a 7 1/4 ?
are you attached to small bolt patterns, if not an 8 3/4 or at least a 8 1/4 and bb pattern are easily accesable from a later a-body. rims are more widely avalible and it is an fairly easy swap.

where are you located ?

I've got the 7 1/4 in the back right now, although I plan to swap it for the 8 3/4 when i get around to it (can i get the sb pattern in a 8 3/4 rearend?).  I would like to keep the car bone stock in appearance ( But I would like to change the power/drivetrain, I've got the 273, but I'd like something bigger and I may want to slap in a 4spd).  Getting these front discs will make the swap easy 'cause everything I need is there and assembled.  Plus to convert to disc for $200 a side seems cheap to me.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm located in Anaheim, CA.

The simplest & cheapest way to do this is to get spindle w/ upper control arms, calipers etc from a '73 up V8 Dart or Valiant.  It is a straight bolt on swap.  Also the rear from the same car will change you rear bolt pattern while changing your drums to 10" instead of 9', & you should also find either a 8.25 or 8.75 rear gera the same way.  I have this setup under my '65 Cuda.  The only additional change you need is the dual master cyl from the smae car, or you will have too mauch rear brake.  I used '72 Chrysler 14x6x4.5 Rallies.   Ovmf
