    Daily Driver Car Problems Really Suck

    I had quite a night last night with my old Corolla daily driver.  I have today off for fall break (three day weekend during our midterms) and was on my way home from school.  I was lucky that one of my roommate's is from Stoughton and decided he would drive along with me until I hit the Madison area...Well, about two miles outside of Platteville, something in the rear end of my car let loose.  I pulled over, checked everything out and after I didn't see any visible parts hanging out of place, I figured my rear brake shoe was locked up.  At this point, my roommate pulled over with me and I figured I could get it to the next closest town to just keep the car there and hitch a ride with him to my sister's place in Madison.  Well, I make it about another mile and this time I get a TON of rubber smoke inside my car as well as a huge line of smoke behind me (doing about 50 mph with my flashers on).  So I pull over yet again and finally see what happened; my left hand side rear strut tower collapsed and was pressing into the rear tire with the strength of the spring! :22yikes:  So I ended up having to call a wrecker ($75 out of my weekend budget because I don't have any working credit cards yet 'cause I lost my wallet, canceled them, and now found my wallet again) to pull it back near my apartment in P-ville and here I sit on my extra day off waiting for my sister and bro-in-law to get back from work so we can head up north as planned...Looks like I'm either taking my Stealth back to school sooner than I wanted (preferred to check it over, bring it to a shop to confirm the transfer case problem was taken care of, and replace parts when it's convenient instead of on the roadside) or borrow my mom's car until Thanksgiving when I'll have some more time to put the Stealth into shape. :pullinghair: :pullinghair: :banghead:

    Man, thats a big bummer, Mark.   :walkaway: I'd be glad I had another vehicle, which happens to be a Stealth.   :naughty:

    After getting my transfer case replaced for the recall, the new one they put in locked up going down the highway. I was lucky, no cars where coming and i just went spinning into some grass. If you take it to a Dodge dealer, they can tell you if you still have the faulty transfer case.

    I was cruising up the I-95 through Boston a few years back, it was about 7pm and I was on the outside lane of about 4 lanes of traffic, cruising along at about 75mph.  I felt a vibration in my steering wheel, if I cut to one side it goes away, cut to the other it gets worse. After a few miles, I found a spot to stop and investigate....my wheel was falling off and I only had 2 studs left on the drivers side front wheel.   :bricks1:   :eek2: 

    Walked to a home depot, got enough tools to rob a stud from the passenger side, installed it on the driver side and continued driving the 600miles home...lol.

    Breaking down when you're trying to get home sucks, always happens at the worse possible time, couldn't happen putting around town eh...

    Well, I'm back at home now for the weekend.  Tomorrow will be a busy day messing around with getting parts and what not for the Stealth, but I remembered one of my neighbors a few miles up the road is finishing up his schooling down in P-ville...So, hopefully he decided to come home for this short break and I can  get a ride back with him.  I'd really hate to ruin my Stealth with something that could've been avoided if I waited a little longer to get it fixed.  I'm checking with my local Dodge dealership tomorrow to see if any records are on file for my t-case. :thumbsup:
