E-body K-frame V8 and Hemi?
« on: November 12, 2007 - 06:43:25 AM »
Been a while sice I have posted here but I need some real expert advice.

I have always believed that the only difference between a normal V8 K-frame and the Hemi K-frame (in the E-body) was a skid plate welded on the bottom. Hence the different part number.

However I do know that many 440 cars got this too to protect the larger oil pan. My own 440 Challenger has this.

But two Hemi owners are telling me the Hemi K-frames are always different. No exceptions. One has owned several Hemi cars and currently has a HemiCuda as well as a 340 Challenger.

Can someone please explain to me what the difference is if any?

I do know the mounts are different. Take that as excepted. I also know that other models had different K-frames for big/small blocks etc. But i was sure the E-body only used the one basic V8 K-frame and another for the slant six....

I now here it is the engine mount that bolts onto the frame in a totally different manner. Is this correct on e-bodies?

there are 3 K frames for the Chall / Cuda ,
 /6
 All V8
Hemi
the Hemi had a different mount system to clear the #1 & 2 exhaust port as the port points nearly straight down & the header or manifold sit under the head
the pic looks like a Hemi k to me
the other option is to use the Schumaker mounts which will mount the Hemi to the V8 K & clear the manifold
