Challenger disc brakes

Hey guys

My 70 Challenger came with front drums which I'd like to swap to discs. I am looking into fitting stub axles calipers etc off one of our Aussie Chrylers (because the're cheap & plentiful) this would require some modification due to mismatched upper ball joints & different length steering arms. The other option of course is to use genuine Challenger parts, but that's not so easy due to lack of donor cars.
A guy here who imports Chrysler parts said he was bringing in a couple of set of Challenger discs etc but the price was a bit steep at $650 to $700 AUD which at current rates would be around $530 US. I know he has to freight them & pay import duty etc but I'd like an idea of what you guys would pay for 2nd hand stubs, discs & calipers etc.

I don't want to sound sceptical (sp?), but that seems like a overly low price considering the import cost etc. I've seen disc conversion kits  advertised from around $750.00 to $1500,00 US, with maybe a $50-$60 shipping fee additional cost.  If these are used sets they may be crap and require near that amount again to rebuild them, with parts you don't have. Understand my point?

We're converting our front and rear brakes to disc.  The fronts are $1000 and the back is $750.  So yours are still less than half price of new ones.  Did he mention exactly what you would be getting?

The price quoted was for used Challenger axles, disc rotors & calipers in supposed good cond. Obviously I would not buy them if they were unservicable. I would naturally expect to replace wheel bearings, brake pads & machine the rotors before using them.

I am not sure what kits you guys are referring to, I was more interested to know what you thought was a fair price for second hand parts as mentioned.

I would much prefer to use the same parts off the local Chrysler as I only paid $50 for the whole car (minus engine & trans) & have already sold the grille & head light trim for $100. The idea was to unbolt the Challenger uprights (stub axle & lower ball joint) at the ball joints & tie rod ends & replace with the Valiant ones. Unfortunately the Challenger has a larger upper ball joint & the lower ball joint steering arms are longer. I can ream out the top hole on the Valiant upright to suit the Challenger ball joint taper but that still leaves me with the short steering arm problem.

If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears.
