Deep Groove Pulleys
« on: November 17, 2007 - 09:02:11 AM »
Have deep groove pulleys ever been manufactured for Mopars? I happened accross todays episode of Dream Car Garage as they showed a comparison shot of a deep groove vs normal shallow groove. BIG difference as the belt sat nearly 1/4" below the pulley lip

Out of curiosity, what would be the need of deep grove pulleys if the belt is tensioned properly. Belts don't normally leap out of a normal pulley, do they?
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Was thinking of the same thing, only time I seen belts jump off on a Mopar is when the pulleys are not even with each other.

My duster used to toss the belt regularly while racing it at up to 7200 rpm , I used an idler to keep the belt on , there are companies that make custom pulleys so it would be no problem to get them , the big issue is the crank & water pump pulley almost touch now with stock pulleys so the pulley would have to be wider to accomadate the extra depth of the groove

What kind of valve train did you have that allowed revving over 7000 rpm?

Must have been some serious springs!
