It's a rerun from earlier this year.  Maybe it will get finished in 2008?

I don't get why they centered it. The only reason he said they did it was because it looks cool. I bet nobody will be able to tell a difference.

They also mentioned that clearance was less of a problem when centered, what blew my mind was their explanation as to why the motor/tranny are off center...something to do with getting the needle bearings in the U-joints to spin?!?  I always heard it was to offset the motor torque to keep the weight of the car balance....anyone really know the deal?

It may have been the clear the steering shaft and brake booster. I'm just guessing. By centering a hemi, you don't even get more room to change the passenger side spark plugs.

I am very sure the engines are not centered for more room for the steering box and linkage.

I have heard many times by roundy round guys thats why they dont like using Mopars for racing, the offset engine throws more weight on the right side of the car and they do not corner as well. Anyone hear that? I think anything that limits the destruction of our precious resource of Mopars is a good thing. I did work for a guy who took a 69 Roadrunner and made a dirt tracker out of it. I remember it all gutted with every panel dented but it still had the cool coyote air filter. Sad that so many cars died like that because at the time no one wanted them or they needed some work.

I meant they were off-set to clear the box.

They're offset for steering box clearance. Typically unless you have a hole cut in the hood for a scoop and you have to offset the air pan to line everything up, most people will never notice the offset.

In all but the most restrictive, pure stock, circle track classes you are allowed some amount of offset and set back and drop. Any savvy car builder is going to relocate the entire engine and driveline to maximize their car to these rules, regardless of what the car was laid out with originally. One of the classes I ran in specified that engine set back would only allow the front most spark plugs to be in line with the upper ball joints, left side bias was limited to 55%, and the crank centerline could be no lower than 12" above the racing surface. With specs like that, you pretty much knew where everything had to sit in the car to meet the intent of the rule book.

Yeah, unfortuantly, I've trashed a few decent cars racing. That's why I switched to chevys and fords for a while. Let me tell ya, you learn to appreciate a lot of mopar traits while driving the other teams stuff.
