I do believe if you had an AM radio, you got the telescopic antenna, if you had an AM-FM, you got the shorter fixed length. The longer antenna would work better for AM, the shorter for FM, and it's cheaper too.
I wanted to show this because I don't believe any other car maker made a taller antenna than Mopar on their passenger cars. A story to go along the lines of this:When I was younger I used to drive to the top of the mountain look out above the valley at night. 2,000 elevation apprx. With a dial radio, I would try to catch a "skip" station. That is when a radio station bounces off and skips. I would pick up stations up far away as from Los Angeles which was 500+ miles away from me. It wouldn't happen very often, but turning the station knob ever so slightly I could catch these skip stations from great distances.
