Drum Vs Disc master cylinders?

One of the guys on my resto' thread picked my master cylinder as a drum unit when I have front disc brakes.  He was suggesting that it won't hold enough fluid for disc brakes but it is the master cylinder that came with the car and the front discs are factory.  I drove the car twice before stripping it down and the brakes worked but I didn't push them.  Can someone give me e run-down on the implications or whether this is or isn't going to be a problem.  Barracuda now has a 383 so will have extra weight up front over 318 but not sure if this will affect things?

If you have a drum brake master cylinder it has restictors in it to hold slight pressure on the drums so the wheel cylinders will not leak.  If you did not change the master cylinder you need to do so quick as possible.  That is the problem.

the volume of the master is not an issue as long as you check the fluid regularly as the calipers will lower the fluid level over time
 the bigger issue is the residual pressure valve will drag the disc brakes

Thanks guys, I'll check with my mechanic next week (Chrysler restoration place) and see what my local options are for a correct master cylinder.  Shame though - I had mine restored and clear coated for nothing, also had the cover replated.

They made both power and non power disk brake master cylinders.  So watch out whick one you get.  I had one Barracuda or Challenger that was non power disk brakes.

I am thinking of switching to 4 wheel disk brakes and going non power.

dont forget the proportioning valve. i still havent changed mine yet. the car stops but takes a very very long time.

i am in the prosess of trying to finish 4 disc  conv stay away from the master power kit its a night mare the rears i dont think they did any R&D on then & they dont answer there phone
