s/b 727 kickdown question

I have a set up that was supposed to be off a 340 e body and it has a pivot that appears to swing on a rod off of the bell housing ( I dont have the rod). A friend tells me that pivot type is the old style and that the E body had on rod that extends from the pivot at the back of the intake all the way down to the lever on the trans. Is that so? Would that rod for the pivot be the same for big or small block (if there is one used that is).

the rod is the same big or small block
either system will work fine , I have seen some early 70 E bodys with the 3 piece system which I also thought was incorrect but the car was very original & unmodified so possibly they did have the 3 piece

Seems that everyone thinks that the cars were all made the same.  When these were put together they used anything that would work and did not care if they were all the same.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Both my 70 440 Charger, and my buddies 70 383 Cuda had the 3 piece linkage.  I wasn't the original owner, but if they changed out the linkage, thats the only thing they touched on a 30,000 mile car.

It sounds like your have a early kickdown set-up. Yes, the '73 car should have only one pivot by the throttle bracket with a long rod down to the trans lever on the valve body. Attached is a photo of the early linkage where their are two pivots (7 )is on the side of the bellhousing portion and (9) up by the throttle brkt.
