RB Engine mounts
« on: October 13, 2007 - 12:11:31 AM »
How do you tell which side goes on what side of the block? :dunno: The main difference I can see is that one of the mounting brackets had a tube welded in it. I just can't figure out which side goes on what side of the block. Also, do the mounts go in front of the ears on the block or behind them? :1zhelp:

Well, I got them on the engine, though not without some drama first. After lining everything up to get the bolt sizes I went out and got some brand new grade 8 nutz, bolts and washers. When I got back and started to put it all together, the rubber mount broke internally while I was tightening the nut that holds it to the bracket. I had a heck of a time getting it back off since the threaded part just kept spinning inside the mount. :hyper:  I had to exert some sideways pressure on it to allow me to finally remove the nut. I had to go get some more/better engine mounts (I ditched the other POS one too just in case) . These ones had the threaded part splined to the steel like a wheel stud. They shouldn't go anywhere... I hope.

Here's some pics if anyone's interested  :picture:

I've got the junk mounts too, what happens when they let go? does it allow the engine to move enough to do any damage?

I ripped a mount in my 318 which resulted in whenever I stepped on the throttle from a stop the car popped out of gear because the engine and transmission moved so much.

Got a link for a source? Schumacher wanted $250 for theirs. :scared:

I busted a driver side mount in my 68 Power Wagon before. The engine rolled over hard enough to sever the two distributor wires between the firewall/floor pinch weld and the trans bell housing. :misbehaving:

I found some Poly-loc mounts on Mancini's webpage (http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/newmapopomom.html).  Or you can start from Mancini's main webpage (www.manciniracing.com), and click on the 'motor mounts' section.

Part Number MREBXEP ($150)

It says that these are a product of Schumacher and Imperial Services.  Even at $150, these are some expensive motor mounts, compared with $30/pair for the stock ones from 440 Source.

Thanks for the input, CP...I was just getting ready to buy some stock rubber ones, but maybe I need to change plans!

once you have to change a couple of the $30 mounts due to failure 150 for good mounts that never need replacing will seem like a bargain

I'm looking at using the poly locks also. Since they will increase vibration and I have 2 cars to replace mounts on would it work ok to just install the poly lock mount on the drivers side and leave the standard rubber one on the passenger side or will this cause some other type of problem??
