To recoup development costs for a very limited market.   I do know what your saying though, when you look at how inexpensive some comparable Camaro or Mustang parts may be.

I understand the whole supply and demand thing, but if you can reproduce a 71 cuda grille(same one year only car)for $500,then why do you charge $220 for two plastic lenses?I would be happy finding some that are spiderwebbed as long as they are complete,I need to replace some steal in the area of the lenses on my frt. valance and need them for mock up.I guess I am just frustrated with the prices?I have found as soon as I say 71 Cuda,$$$$$$$$$$$$. :stomp:

I get the same thing when i say i need parts for my Hemi...............
oooooooh its for a Hemi, caching caching, i hope you know these parts are going to cost a little more now because it is a Hemi.

I know exactly what you are saying, if i can get a hold of some good lenses i can have them copied by a guy i know here in Australia and they would have cost no more than $60 for the pair and that is him making the mould included.  You would think the price of the 71 Grille would be more for such a large item, but then again once you start buying the rest of the pieces to finish the grille your wallet starts to bleed from being opened so often like an old war wound.  :faint:

Have you tried PG Classics for the stainless trim ?  They have a web site but do not list the Stainless on the web page but if you down load their catalog you will find pictures and prices for the Stainless. :picture:  Does not take long to down load the catalog, about 30 seconds on my connection and all the way down in Australia. :roflsmiley:

Man, your right on the grill.   The vendors are making a liar out of me, there are alot of pieces I have said will never be made, and now they have been.   I won't rule out anything anymore.   I thought they would never make a 71 Cuda grill, and you are righ, they are relatively inexpensive.

Don't get me wrong when i say that the parts guys are doing a great job BUT they charge like wounded bulls when it comes to some certain items.  If the dealers could offer a more realistic price like the 71 Grilles are priced at, then they would most deffinetly get more sales.
I know exactly what goes in to research & devlopment and their is no way you can charge for it, you just have to put the extra slight percentage on the price of the items cost for actual production and make up the difference in quantity.  If you have quality you will have no problems with sales.
I know guys who will hang off from buying items because of their price and wait till they really need the part towards the end of a build, But most often when this happens the parts vender has discontinued the item due to lack of sales.  If the parts guys looked at the way Chev and Ford parts are priced they would be amazed at how the sales would take off.  I have freinds looking for a fast buck that have tried over charging for parts to try recoop money invested in R&D But they end up shooting themselves in the foot and loose out in every way.  SAD. :(

Very simple solution.  Contact a manufacturer and have a quantity built and sell them for cheap.  You can't say "I understand supply and demand, but...".  If you understand supply and demand then you understand why they cost what they cost.

The problem i have here in Australia is getting a good lense to copy as we did not get any E-body Mopars exported here.  Every E-body Mopar here has been brought over by individuals and not companies.   So the parts department is smaller than slim.   If someone sent me parts like lenses i would be more than willing to help out fellow Mopar Members with what i can do.
