So My Charger Gets Its First Cruise Today!
« on: December 24, 2007 - 02:19:59 PM »
Went for my first cruise ever in my charger today. Car didn't want to stay running and had to be driven 2 footed, was lots of fun at red lights. We go to the gas station and get 16.5 gallons of mid-grade, more fun. Then we go on the highway. The 400 is gutless btw. So my dad floors it up to 55, which takes awhile, we are at about 5000rpm, the cabin noise is insane I can't even hear myself think.
Then, a Bugatti Veyron goes flying by. I justed laughed, thats NJ for ya.

I didn't get to drive it, my dad did. The Veyron was in fast mode also, the wing was down. The car still has a timing problem and likes to die in gear. I think the Bugatti guy was jealous cuz I was at 5k and sounded better and got more looks.

But it sure looks pretty!  Do a compression check.  A nice performance cam will go a long ways in those engines.

Great that you got to go for a cruise. The Charger Looks Great ..as for the 400 being gutless I can testify that that is not the case..You obviously have some issues to work through, and I'm not saying to expect '70 440 power out of it, but in the late '70s my friend & I had a pair of '73's...mine was a well worn 318, now that was guttless, but his was a low mile 400 on which he put a aftermarket Thermoquad, I think it was 900-950 CFM, & that bad boy was a Boulevard Brawler...

The car is gutless because the timing is off. It is close enough that it will run and drive, but off enough that it has no power. The engine has 452 heads, a 670cfm holley street avenger, a mild cam, to headers with 2.5" duals with an H-pipe.

It had to feel good to get your car out. At this point in time, the lack of power could be anything. Even old gas and crud in the gas tank could do it. Good luck with it.

We put 16.5 gallons of mid-grade in it right at the beginning of the drive.

If the car sat for a while, there could be crud in the gas tank and/or fuel lines that is restricting the flow of fuel.  That could help explain the stalling and stumbling.  Have you tried replacing the fuel filter, yet?  It might also be a good idea to drop the tank and give it a good look inside for rust, etc.

The car has not been sitting it just hasn't been driven. I have been adding about a gallon or 2 of regular every other week and starting it up.
