    How can I improve on factory electrical system?

    I would be interested to hear from anyone regarding any modifications/improvements they have made or might recommend to the factory electrical system. The car is a 70 Challenger 383. The only thing I have done to date is to bypass the factory ammeter gauge (will replace it with a voltmeter). I have heard this will also make the lights a little brighter, as all electrical load runs throught the original factory ammeter. What else would you guys recommend? Would a different alternator, or a headlamp relay help?

    Are there better alternators on the market besides the stock unit? Are single wire alternators any more reliable? Also, are all voltage regulators created equal? My car is all stock but I don't care if these components aren't.

    Powermaster makes a 1 wire alternator, that is voltage tested, and much better then stock. Lights are brighter, and it is in a stock case, so the modification is barely noticeable.

    i sell a self exciting single wire alternator at my shop.  its a delco.  lester number 7127se. cheap one thats around 40 amps is around 50 bucks.  got a 63 amp version for like 75 and theres even a 100 amp model out there.

    any 4 or 5 pin 30 amp realy will work , you can run 1 under dash before the dimmer or run a pair out by the starter relay

    Actually the MAD site explains that the one-wire is inferior to the 3-wire.

    the small Denso alt pkg 440 Source sell is a nice unit , it will put out 30+ amps @ idle

    on my 70 Challenger I bit the bullit and bought the updated/modified front engine harness from YearOne and put a new Powermaster Alt on.....everything works great and no dim headlights.....my orig harness had been butchered over the years..
