Dash Fram e paint - what is correct??
« on: December 31, 2007 - 10:09:05 AM »
I need to paint my dash frame. I seem to recall that it is like semi-gloss. I will paint it black, should I just paint it gloss black and put a flattner in the clear coat?

if you already have the materials, i do not see what the problem would be.  Just check the data sheet to see what sheen is recomended for a semi-gloss finish. :2thumbs:

If you paint it Base/Clear the base will be flat. The clear is what gives the shine on auto paint. I am looking at the Challenger& Barracuda Restoration Guide and it says the following.
1. 1970 Chall/Cuda had flat black paint on the steering column and dash frame Ditzler Code 9324
2. 1971 - 1974 Chall/Cuda had Semi Gloss on the same parts Ditzler Code 9388
Your local paint shop should be able to mix up some paint according to these codes and it is Single Stage paint.
Hope this helps.

Depending on what you are building if you want to save some time and money you can spray it with Krylon semi- flat paint. I have used it on several of the driver mopar's I have had with very good results.
