« on: December 30, 2007 - 03:30:55 PM »
My trunk floor has some rust by the tail panel and the driver side trunk extension.I need to replace the last foot and a half of the rear frame(soft) and I don't know what the best way would be.I just don't want to do it half a$$ed.I'm not rich by any means but I want it right what ever it cost. Thanks Chuck

If it is not too thin I would most likely just patch it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Looking at the pics from the botom, it is worse than it looks. What looks like small pin holes will get much larger when you clean it up. Thats why I say replace it. The rear frame rails look like a safe-t-cap may cure that problem too.  :2cents:

I had some rust in my trunk area, but it was located in a thin strip all along the rear of the tail panel. i am going to cut that out and lay a peice in there. I also have rust right along side the inside wheel wells, and those can be cut out and peiced back in. My trunk extensions are in worse shape, and i had to replace one of them. I would say that after you clean up the surface areas and see what you have, if you have some thin areas all the way around the trunk area similar to what i have, i would replace the whole pan. I am trying to blend in the repairs, but some of those tight angle areas are tough. If i could do it again, i would buy a complete trunk pan and be done with it.

I agree with Dave, by the time you get that all cleaned up, it will be worse than it looks now.  I would replace it, and sleep better knowing it was gone for good. :2cents:

Start cleaning it up and see how it looks. You may find that you will want to replace it once you get a good look at what is really there.

i would suggest to replace it. When you factor in filling the pits and cutting out the bad area's and patching, rail ends, you will be farther ahead in labor costs to replace the whole panel, the trunk floor, floor supports, lock support, tail panel, rear rail sections NOT safety caps. I have in stock. i give 10% or better to C-C members. The big draw back to a full trunk replacement  is I hope your putting on a quarter panel. If not you will have to cut in half and stitch weld it back together. Other wise you can slide the whole trunk floor in from the right side with out any major issues. If you do that. make sure the spare tire bracket is welded in first. hope this helps.
