Tach question?
« on: January 05, 2008 - 01:05:40 AM »
Hey guys!
Got another question for you guys.

I got the tach mounted up and I got the green wire and the black wire run.
The green is the connection to the coil. The black is for ground.

Just can't figure out where the red and white wire go.
The red wire is supposed to go to a harness wire which is energized with battery voltage only when the ignition key is in the ON (RUN) position.
The white wire is supposed to go to the instrument panel lighting circuit or any lead that is controlled by the instrument panel dimmer control.

Just don't know where these two wires are supposed to go.

The tach is a sunpro super tach II.

I can't figure out the ON wire because the car doesn't run yet.

Please help me, I kinda want to get this done by tommorrow.

White is for the light in the tac and red is your power wire.... I have a terminal block under my dash and have all my autometer stuff plegged in there for power wise and another tach under the hood..

The dimmr wires are orange under the dash.. just splice into them with the white wire...the orange wire that powers up the slap stick console is orange as well and works off the dimmer...

Red wire find a 12V switched source... or you can just tap the white wire the same place as the red and have the tach light on when running the car...

I have 3 of my lower guages this way cause its hard to see them down by my knee.....  :2cents:

Alright I spliced the orange wire onto the white wire.
So that should work.

What do you mean about the red wire?

What is a 12V source?

there is a red triple plug under the dash near the ashtray , that should be 12v switched power , plug into that

Alright I can't find any triple plug. Could it just be on the e-bodies?
I have an a-body.

I would just take a voltmeter when the car is running, but the car isn't running.

I can't figure out this simple little tach. I hate electronics.

worst case you can plug into the acc terminal on the fuse block or plug into the back of the fuse block , I think A body doesn`t have the front terminal
