Broadcast-Sheets from other cars.

I was asked a few times, if I want a broadcast-sheet that someone found in his Barracuda or Challenger. One with a different VIN Number, a few digits plus or less, from another car, (mistakenly) put in during assembly. Of course I should say yes. But I rather not, it would probably be in one of the drawers for ages.

This is my opinion:
If there is another broadcast-sheet in your car and the VIN does not match, please keep this paper ! It belongs to your car, your car came with it from the factory, this is
simply another rare thing on your car ! And this adds a small amount to the value, too.
If you give it away today, you will regret it tomorrow.

You can always post the VIN on one of the well known websites. If the car is out there, someone will contact you sooner or later and you can think about it what you do.

So, if I found a broadcast sheet in another car that matched your car, I should keep it?   

I would much rather give it to you. 

The sheets do add some monetary value to the cars they match, but add nothing to the value of cars they do not.

I never have cared for the monetary side of the hobby anyway. To me, if something matches a car, it belongs with that car if the car still exists. I know hundreds of people in the hobby that feel the same way. With a lot of help from them, reporting things they have, sending items in and so on I have been able to help well over 300 people find matching items for their cars. It is a wonderful thing when it happens. 

If anyone asks you about sending items in in the future, please send them my way. I will glady help them help others.

I have no problem storing them for ages either, the very first broadcast sheet I sent out to the owner of the car sat here waiting in a filing cabinet for 12 years. That original filing cabinet has been joined by 17 more, all because people enjoy helping other people.

Please, the next time someone asks if you want (A or E body) broadcast sheets, please (again) just say yes. Then mail them off to Barry, he's been doing a great job of reuniting this valuable info to their rightful owner for decades. I personally sent him the wrong one from my car and am hoping someone finds mine and sends it to him. See, my fender tag rotted away with the inner fender and would love to have a new one made up, but can't without the right info. Like Barry said, and I agree, cars are worth more with their proper original stuff.

I have to agree that the broadcast sheets should be kept and if the owner turns up with proof of ownership let him have it. I would love to have mine turn up for my Cuda someday.

agree with Barry 100%......a few years ago I got a call from a guy with a BCast Sheet from a red Daytona I owned once.....I had sold the car, but sent him to the new owner, he was thrilled to get it 35 years after the car left the plant

I'm sorry but I don't understand your thinking! If you had the sheet for someones car what posible value would it be to you. It would be like holding it up and toughing a match to it in front of him. How would feel I if happened to you knowing someone else had your papers for your car and wouldn't let you have them?
