Speedometer?
« on: December 07, 2007 - 06:26:52 PM »
Not really sure which section this goes in, so its going here.  For my 1967 pickup, I am installing a 5.7 with the nv3500 5 speed tranny.  I am using the original rear end (dana 60).

Question:  What the heck am I going to do for a speedometer?  There is nowhere, (that I can see) on the tranny for a spot for one.  The origninal rear end has nowhere for one either, because the original tranny had a spot for one.  Now what do I do?   :bricks1: :bricks1: :bricks1:

Thanks...

ive got a 400 dollar answer for you if thats in your budget.  the first thing a guy would need would be one of these http://www.tellico4x4.com/product_info.php/cPath/2880_991_3643/products_id/24227?osCsid=bfa59405573792d5efd80abdbe5eeb64 thats a yoke mounted adapter that allows you to use a factory gm vehicle speed sensor.  they actually make these so you can put a late model engine in an old car and have a means to send a speed signal to the ecm but itll work perfectly for what you want to do. once you have usable signal you can use something like this http://www.hallspeedshop.com/lunar-speedometer-p-2716.html those universals can be calibrated to work with just about any factory vss. www.autometer.com/download_instruction/1029A.pdf

Cool, thanks man.  I really dont know if that is in my budget, I'm not really worrying about it too much now, I think it wouldnt be too bad to install after everything is up and running.  I've been researching it, and I found this, too.

I could install it myself, and it uses a factory style speed sensor, they just make that disc similar to the one found in the rear diff.   :dunno: :clueless:
