Sub harness for 5 speaker set up

    Hi Guys,

    I'm looking to hook up all five of my speakers (72 Cuda).  We went to put the radio (am/fm non-stereo) in and realized there is a sub-harness required.   :clueless:Anyone have experience with this?  Best place to find one?  (If ebay, is there anything I should beware of?)

    What kind of deck is it? Most decks nowadays have 3 rca preouts. One for front speakers, one for rear speakers and one for a sub. The rca preouts just run from your amp(s) to the deck. From there speaker wires run from the amp back to your crossovers(if you have them) then to your speakers.

    I'm guessing you have a stock radio??   :dunno:

    If it is after-market, Crutchfield might be able to help.

    Any good stero shop or Best buy sales a box to convert the speaker signal over to an RCA sub out for your project.

    Yeah, you can get line output convertors at Radioshack if I am not mistaken.

    Yep, it's a stock 72 E-body am/fm non-stereo.  Seems without the 'sub-harness' I can only connect the rears.

    A stock E-body with a sub? I must be getting the terms mixed up because there is no way any E-bodies came with subwoofers. Is it some kind of secondary wiring harness to hook it all up?

     :roflsmiley: I had to laugh at that one I think the "sub"  is a secondary harness, not sub woofer. On '70's I think the front harness is separate with a fader installed under the cluster. It gives you front rear control. But if you have the stereo fronts you don't get the "center" channel just 4 speakers. also The only decks that use this are stereo ones not mono. The mono's just use the one "center" channel speaker. I don't know where ot get the whole harness. I have a fader or two but I don't think it has the whole harness. It would be for a '70 it may be different  :dunno:

    I used Ward's and they did a GREAT job.  I had my am/fm refurbed and tested and an iPod jack installed -works great!  Although, i do think I'm going to add a sub under the passenger seat -needs it BADLY!!!!

    Ok...seems I haven't done a good job of explaining my 'issue'.   ...the radio is a 1972 e-body am/fm stock radio (not stereo).  I had Ward's test the radio and install an iPod jack.  When we installed the radio, we noticed that we need what seems to be a secondary harness to plug the forward speakers into.  Without it, it seems you're just meant to connect a single front speaker.

    So ...does this sound right?  Thanks again and sorry for the confusion.    :banghead:
