4 speed OD, bellhousing question
« on: January 12, 2008 - 12:18:49 PM »
4 speed OD transmission.

To put this behind a slant 6, what bellhousing is needed?  Is the slant 6 housing the same as smallblock?

you need the special slant six od bellhousing, because the od trans uses a larger bearing retainer

I thought you could just swap the bearing retainer for the correct size.   :dunno:

I may even have a slany 6 belhousing , I usually find the OD tranny behind the slant , the slant 6 & V 8 bel are very different & will not interchange , you need the slant 6 one , most slant 6 manual trans will either have the 4.30 diameter hole in the bel or the od 5.2 , the retainer cannot be cut down to 4.3"

The guy is offering the OD trans, with "the a SB bellhousing"
Could this go behind the /6 or would I need to save it for the 360?

thr small block bel is harder to get & can be sold easily , it will not bolt onto the 6 though

Purchase the setup you see forsale and just sell the bellhousing, it should sell fairly fast.

Then just go look in some local junkyards (on late 70's and early 80's vans and trucks) and you should be able to find the correct bellhousing.

I have a future project I want to build and may have to do the same thing.   :2thumbs:
