I can't "see the light" rallye gauges
« on: January 17, 2008 - 02:35:34 PM »
I have a 73 rallye and have never seen any red ignition light when the key is turned on. Is there a red light that comes on when the key is turned on. Also, what makes the brake light stay on. I have new pads and shoes, the proportion valve is plugged in and the ebrake is released, but the brake light still stays on. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the brake light staying on could be a short in the circuit or more than likely an out of adjustment/stuck switch on the brake pedal or parking brake.
Try disconnecting the wire at the parking brake switch first and see if the light goes out.  If it doesn't disconnect the switch at the brake pedal and see if the light goes out.
This should help solve theproblem, if not post back witht eersults, you might have a short somewhere if these 2 steps don't give you the result you want.

There is no light that comes on with the ignition. Your gauges should move though.

Sometimes the brake light can be tricky. On mine, sometimes I have to pull up on the emergency brake pedal to get the light to go out.
