The pins add a race-car, muscle car look. They were an option back in the day. I have never had a problem with them scuffing the paint. Just be careful pulling them out.

Back when I had my original.......in 1970, it did not come with the hood pins.  I traveled to school from Virginia to Nashville, Tn when the speed limit was 75 on I40.  We would always run 80 to 90 for sustaned periods of time.  The way the wind would catch under the hood overhang..........well I felt better when I installed the pins.   The corners of the hood would actually lift.  Now we do not have the opportunity to drive that way so you probably haven't noticed the problem.   I liked the pins then but will probably not put them on mine now.

IMO the Challenger is one of very few cars that are perfectly complimented by pins. On many other classics the pins just look out of place, but not on an E-body.

But it also depends on what you want your Challenger to represent. Like the individual style of your car. Do you want it to be a classic cruiser, or a menacing beast?

Personally i'm going for an aggressive musclecar look, so pins are a must have, as well as wide rear rubbers. But for example on a stock 2-barrel 318 or even 6-banger they would give off, well... kind of a wannabe vibe. (Although they'd probably look good nevertheless)

Just be careful pulling them out.

This is when 99% of the scratches occur.  Don't let anyone else pull them out, that has caused me the most problems.  If your not careful and familar with doing it, it never fails, they come out quickly and drag the paint.

Hood pins look good and give a bit of safety from hood flying up.  E-bodies have a pretty good sized hood and catch a lot of wind.  I always felt better having them on my cars.  Exspecially Challengers but will have them on my Cuda's as well.  They also make the car look a lot better to me!!!!
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Just don't forget to pin it!  My T/A hood is pinned on all 4 corners thanks to the previous owner, when the hood flew up it ripped the mounts right out.

As a kid in the 1971, my Mother had a 1970 'Cuda 383 auto and a 1970 'Cuda with a 340 4 spd pistol grip-shaker hood and a Dana 60 (yes, it was a dana 60 - she bought the car used from the dealer - was it a Hemi car? ???). She put little pad locks on the hoodpins. Problem was if she went somewhere to shop, people would open the hood to look at the motor. She would come walking out of the store to see someone looking under her hood >:( It pissed her off that they never put the pins back in after looking :nono:

I like the clean no pin look, but it is your car :icon16:

My Challenger did not have hood pins originally but I am pretty sure I will add them because I love the look. I did buy some locking hood pins and I will get the bases from YearOne and modify them so I will have locking hood pins with no lanyards. I saw an old Chevelle long ago that had them and I really liked the clean look of the locking pins.

My Challenger has pins, if it didn't I would definetly have fitted them.    :2thumbs:

  Why??   :22yikes:

I have had hoods come up at speed in the past, one going straight over the windscreen. Not a good feeling I can assure you.   :scared:

My 1970 Valiant Pacer as soon as I hit 95mph, up it would come on to the safety catch. Tried everything but couldn't stop it so I fitted a leather strap at the front, fixed the problem. Hood pins were not an option as the only place I could fit them properly looked bad.
