Looking for Hemi pictures
« on: July 26, 2012 - 11:28:08 AM »
Well we got our Hemi finally. It is a all new 472 but I am doing it up to look as stock as possible. So I am looking for good detailed pictures of what the stock hemi would have looked like in 1971, things like: Plug wire routing, fuel line routing, breather lines, vacuum line, chocke, ect.

Which brings up a question. Using new Edlebrock carbs should I worry about trying to hook up the chokes some how, what are people doing?

Attached a picture of what we have right now

Here are a couple pictures that might help.  There are some incorrect things on this car but the captions explain what is wrong.

Here's one in a 71 Charger.  I don't know if there are differences between the E and B body details.

Thanks for the links. I thought that in 71 the booster and master cylender were NOT black?

On NON Hemi cars they weren't black.  70 and 71 Hemi cars had black masters and boosters.

Crap, looks like I have to do a little repainting then  :crying:

I am guessing it is like a semigloss black?

It was originally gloss black but the paint was very cheap.  It didn't have quite the high gloss we are used to today.  It would be glossier then a semigloss though.  If you are using a praypaint, then I'd use gloss.  If you are using a gun, you can play with adding different amounts of flattener to get the shine you want.

It will be a bomb can, I am going to look for something that is resistant to brake fluid, maybe Eastwood has something.

Wonder how Por-15 Blackcote would look, right now I have POR-15 metal mask on the master cylender.

I used a semi-gloss Duplicolor engine paint on a few pieces that was pretty glossy.  I don't have the number handy but it said it was Ford semi-gloss black.  If you are worried about the brake fluid, you could always run DOT5 fluid.

I believe all of the fastener heads (on the cam cover, intake, heads, etc) should be orange since the engine was painted after assembly.

Yea I know I need to do some tuch up on the motor.

What about the bell housing, were they natural or painted engine color? Seems I have seen it both ways.

Auto trans are not painted.  The bellhousings on the manual cars were installed on the back of the engine all the way through the machining process.  This ensured proper input shaft alignment.  Some bellhousings have been found completely painted.  Others have been found with just a band of paint closest to the block...then it fades out to nothing at the other end.

So like most things Mopar did thier was no set in stone way of doing it, gota love it. Right now I have it painted a cast alum color, have to debate to leave it or go engine color.
