Today ricers; tomorrow your Mopar.  We all are under the same rules.

 :iagree:

Paraphrasing Pastor Martin Niemöller's "First they came for the Jews":

First they came for the ricers
and I did not speak out
because I was not a ricer.
Then they came for the lowriders
and I did not speak out
because I was not a lowrider.
Then they came for the off-roaders
and I did not speak out
because I was not a off-roader.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

This seems like a bad idea all around.  1.  Why would you destroy something of value instead of diverting that value to a better use.  2.  Historically speaking, siezure of legal goods or property from private ownership has bred abuse of that power in most instances.  3.  By knowing you will be crushing the car, you give great incentive to run at all costs which puts the suspect, the officer, and the general public in greater danger.

In my opinion, there are many better ways of dealing with the issue including but certainly not limited to:

1.  Making the fines prohibitively expensive if you must, instead of siezure and destruction of private property.
2.  Stop shuting down all of the racetracks that give this activity a proper showcase.
3.  Build additional short tracks and encourage their use through affordable entrance fees.

I remember this topic have been discussed before, some good arguments against the practice of crushing cars were presented:

That's pretty sad they had stolen engines and other parts in those cars.  It's a shame they crushed them instead of donating them to charity through either straight-up donating them or selling them at auction with all proceeds going to charities... :dunno:
The reason they are crushing them is because they simply cant sell them. The insurance companies of the rightful owners would have already written them off and replaced them, so at the end of the day if anyone was to sell them it would have been insurance companies.

The stolen parts issue clouds the water a bit.  Did they crush them because they were street racing, or did they crush them because they had stolen parts on them?  BTW, not being able to sell them because they technically didn't own them is a pretty weak excuse.  They didn't have the right to sell them- but somehow had the right to destroy them?  How the he!! does that make sense?

They sell cars of an unknown condition every day at police auction.  Many of which were "abandoned" and don't come with keys, much less the original title.
